Code Geass 18: Spiralling downwards?

No pictures this time. Nightspeed’s subs (or my laptop) won’t behave and the episode didn’t run smoothly, so I’m not motivated enough to look for screenshots. Let me just start be saying my feelings for this episode are conflicted, and I am both glad and resentful of the amount of time allotted to an anime episode in general. More details on this after the jump.

Code Geass 17: The stage is set

Before I begin, let me just do a completely irrelevant take on HD anime and movies:

My friends call me a quality freak, since I only download high quality anime files (.avi and then .mkv files after the latter became more widespread) despite the huge size and the strain it would inevitably have on my school’s limited bandwidth. Mkv files look gorgeous on my laptop, and even better on the HD-TV at home. Heck, even Rumbel’s Soul Eater subs (.avi files) look beautiful on the big screen. My only gripe right now is the fact that my laptop is not strong enough to handle big .mkv files, and they stick quite often (VLC doesn’t display the subs, which crosses out my only alternative right now). Other than that, it’s awesome!

This post is about Code Geass R2 though, so I’ll get right back to the topic…

This week’s manga – the big three and more (warning, may contain spoilers)

*UPDATE* Kekkaishi 186 has now been added.

I have finally caught up with this week’s manga (sadly, I’ve been letting my manga reading lapse slightly) which, for this week, has been fairly good or at least satisfactory on the whole. I’ve made comments on the big three (Bleach, D. Grayman and Naruto) as well as this week’s Claymore, Double Arts and Doubt. If you haven’t read any of these chapters, go read them now before reading this ^^

Gookie’s Top 3 Anime Mind Trips – Dennou Coil, Ghost Hound and Lain

It takes a certain kind of person to be into the slow moving, obscure, psychological and ‘profound’ anime series. Many people would probably dismiss them as being ‘boring’ or ‘pretentious’ and would merely find them uninteresting, but I confess I am an absolute sucker for the genre. Thus far my favourite three series which fall within this category would be Dennou Coil, Ghost Hound and Serial Experiments LainGhost Hound and Dennou Coil probably being two of my all-time favourite anime series. Post No Sushi’s Rant

Hmm, well beginning a blog with Fan Fic ranting is probably to be expected of No Sushi though it is not exactly what I had in mind for our blog opening, lol. But a formal introduction is probably not necessary either, seeing as this is more or less a private blog for us and our friends.

Anyway, pretty much I envisioned this space to be somewhere we can post comments on the weekly episodes and chapters of on-going anime and manga, as well as to provide first impressions/reflections on new series we discover or re-discover.  I am currently not studying or working, so am in possession of large amounts of free time. As a result, I’ve been watching a LOT of anime as well as anime films, as well as keeping up with my usual manga series. I’ve had this urge to blather on about both, so you can expect a lot of reviews from me in the near future.

Hopefully I will get onto the commentary about the weekly series/chapters I’ve watched/read this week, but I still need to get the latest CG episode, so that post will have to wait until I seen it.

Well, that concludes the first ‘gookie’ rant – somewhat shorter than No Sushi’s post but a good precursor of what is to come. ^^

Fan Fiction Rants

Ah yes, fan fictions. The bane of canon. The birth of slash fics and weird couplings. The ultimate playground for Mary Sues and self-insertions into the realm of fantasy.

How I loath thee. Let me just list a few reasons for this claim: Continue reading ‘Fan Fiction Rants’
